Are you struggling with low milk supply for your baby?
Most mothers produce enough milk for their babies. Your milk supply is. considered low when there is not enough breast milk being produced to meet your baby's growth needs.

As we all know breastfeeding is best for mom and baby. Breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants. It has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein and fat inshort everything your baby needs to grow. Breastmilk contains antibodies that help your baby to fight against viruses and bacterias.

But nowadays most of the new moms are facing low milk supply. If you are also one of them and want to increase your milk supply then here are few tips:

Possible causes of low supply :-

1- You have started using formula milk as well as breastfeeding.

2- Your baby doesn't feed effectively at the breast.

3- You are taking oral contraceptive pills containing oestrogen.

4- You smoke cigarettes.

5- Rarely, there may be reduced or no milk production because of a medical condition. This may occur in less than 5% of mothers.

How to increase your milk supply?

1- Hold your baby skin to skin at the breast. This will help to keep your baby awake and also to increase the release of hormones involved in breast production.

2- When you notice your baby is becoming tired or not swallowing anymore then take your baby off that breast and switch to the next side and repeat on both breasts.

3- Breastfeed frequently. Your baby may need to be woken for some feeds, or may wake to feed even more often.

4- When breastfeeding, massage your breast to assist with milk flow and drainage.

5- If you need to give your baby extra milk then give expressed breast milk separately and before any infant formula seek advice from a lactation consultant.

6- Sometimes prescription medicines are also used to assist with increasing milk supply.
